  • Travel Essentials: Istanbul

With all of the travel adventures that are planned for this year I wanted to start a new series that shares where I’ve been and what essentials I brought with me. For each city and destination I’ll be sharing a handful of items that have been crucial for the journey. Each trip I plan always requires a new set of essentials because no city is the same. When I travel to a new place I’m constantly researching beforehand what I might need. I’m kicking off this series with Istanbul. For this trip I knew I’d need both comfy and chic items. Long journeys require a weekender filled with items to keep me entertained on the flight and layers to add on when I land. I also knew that I’d be documenting everything we do – shops we find, museums we loved, and restaurants. So a notebook was essential – I actually never leave for a trip without one. So far Istanbul as exceeded my expectations – it’s truly a magical city. Don’t worry, a full post will be coming when I return. I hope you’ve enjoyed this new series. Next up is Paris! 1.) Topographical Map Decomposition Notebook | 2.) Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 Neo Classic Camera | 3.) J.Crew Ribbed Alpaca Sweater | 4.) Stripe Cashmere Wrap | 5.) Montblanc Classique Rollerball Pen | 6.) Elizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin C Moisture Serum | 7.) Clare Vivier Weekender | 8.) Warby Parker Reilly Sunglasses | 9.) New Balance Classics in Black | 10.) • a brand new week . . .

Istanbul has been incredible already – the food, the architecture and the people – I’ve loved every moment. Sunday was our first full day here. We spent it wandering the streets hunting for rugs, treasures and beautiful Turkish towels near the Sultan Ahmed Mosque (the Blue Mosque). We had a little too much fun sifting through piles and piles of textiles and rugs. Talk about dangerous for three design lovers! As we walked up the hill from the Arasta Bazaar we entered into the Blue Mosque – it’s truly beautiful inside and out. The tiles and marble used to build it are simply stunning. With every step I took inside I came across something new that took my breath away. We unfortunately didn’t have time to go into the beloved Hagia Sophia yet but we got a glimpse of its beauty from the Blue Mosque. I cannot wait to step inside. I’m in awe of this city after one day – I can’t wait to see what the next five days bring. This week there is a lot in store – a new series is launching later today, a new Blooms in Season post that is absolutely breathtaking, and much more. I hope you all have a splendid week ahead. Don’t forget to check back here or on Instagram for inspiration from the trip. Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • Shop Talk: Spartan in Austin

An item on my wish list for months has been to visit Spartan, a beautiful shop full of textiles, accessories, jewelry and home and paper goods. It’s a feast for your eyes. As you walk through the entire store you can tell the owner Currie Person has sourced items that would feel special in your home. From handcrafted cutting boards for your kitchen, to scarves you want to wrap yourself up in, to paper products you want to bring to your workspace, there is no shortage of amazingness. Currie wanted to create a store that was centered around the idea that it would be a creative hub for collections handmade from around the world. Well, I can honestly say that Spartan is just that vision. The store had me lusting over so many incredible items. With only a carry on to bring things back to SF, I picked up a stunning vase that kept calling my name as I passed it. It’s crafted by Patterson Pottery Company – it now sits in our entry. It brings back wonderful memories of our recent trip. Well, lucky for us Spartan also has counterparts in Portland called Beam & Anchor and in San Francisco called The Voyager on Valencia Street – hurray! So if you live in SF or Portland I highly recommend stopping in these shops. Honestly, Currie has created these stores with gems that make perfect gifts for anyone. I hope you enjoyed these two Austin “Shop Talk” features! Photos by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • Shop Talk: Nannie Inez in Austin

Every trip to Austin I’ve been so focused on the food scene that I completely forget about visiting the small shops. This trip, I didn’t. I was all about driving around town hoping to find a few favorites to share with all of you. Luckily I had a little help from Camille. First of two shops up for today is Nannie Inez, located in the South Austin area. Owned by the ever so darling Deeyn Rhodes and Lonzo Jackson, I was greeted with open arms right when I stepped in the door. They immediately had me smitten. As I walked through their space eyeing each unique piece, Deeyan had a beautiful story to tell about everything – how they found it, where it was from, every single thing made me more and more intrigued about each product they had sourced. Friends, this isn’t a shop to miss. Deeyan and Lonzo have selected such special pieces to bring into their incredible shop. They carried items from Alyson Fox, MacMaster Lighting, Room 39, Donna Wilson, and Hay (one of my favorites!). So if you find yourself in the Austin area be sure to pop into Nannie Inez – I guarantee you’ll be leaving feeling inspired! Be sure to stop by later today – I’ll be sharing my other favorite Austin shop. Photos by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • Getaway: Silvercar

On our recent trip down south to Austin we discovered Silvercar. It’s an incredible new rental car service that actually made renting a car a pleasurable experience – take my word for it friends, it’s amazing! We landed from our flight with freezing temps in Austin (which is rare) and we were greeted by a message on our phones that a car was waiting for us outside. The car drove us to the rental lot, opened up our Silvercar app, unlocked our Audi A4s and we were driving away in less than five minutes. Two minutes later Eric and I were singing along to our Pandora – a sign we were definitely on vacation. We were so excited for our trip – we couldn’t wait for the delicious food, inspiring shops and spending time with family and friends. Some of our favorite restaurants we went to were Josephine House and Arro - both were designed beautifully. They both gave me inspiration for a couple projects I’m currently working on. We also drove around town to go to a few favorite shops Camille recommended – you’ll see more on those shops this week. I have to say, our week with our Silvercar had us wanting an Audi for ourselves – especially with the built-in wifi and sunroof. At the end of the trip it was sad to say goodbye but luckily we travel to Austin regularly and we can’t wait to rent with them again. Silvercar isn’t available in every city, but it’s growing fast – if you’re traveling to Austin, Dallas, LA or SF I would highly recommend looking into Silvercar. This post is brought to you by Silvercar. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting sponsored posts that keep Sacramento Street doors open. Photos by Caitlin Flemming #travel

  • Layer It: With Nars

I’ve always been a girl that applies two products – liquid foundation and mascara. Then I run out the door thinking nothing of it. Lately, I’ve been trying a little harder in the beauty department. To my surprise, applying a little eye shadow and lip gloss have done wonders. So I decided to set out and try a few other things – once you start you can’t stop, right? I turned to Nordstrom and went directly to the Nars counter to test out adding more than just my normal foundation and mascara routine. Plus, their packaging is so me. What I found was a look that still gave the “no makeup” look but elevated my normal day-to-day look. While I don’t wear all of this every single day, I’m trying to add onto my basics with these five layers. Do you have go to make-up items that you can’t live without? I would love to know since I’m somewhat of a newbie in this category! The Basics: 1. ‘Larger Than Life’ Lengthening Mascara 2. Sheer Matte Foundation The Layers: 3. Highlighting Blush Powder 4. Duo Eyeshadow in Tzarine 5. Illuminator 6. Radiant Creamy Concealer in Vanilla 7. Lip Gloss in Turkish Delight (perfect for my trip!) More favorites that are on my wish list! This post is brought to you by Nordstrom All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting sponsored posts that keep Sacramento Street doors open. #style

  • Branding & Video Workshop: And We’re Live . . .

This past fall I was invited to join a video and branding workshop called “And We’re Live” with lifestyle expert Kelley Moore. This workshop was centered around teaching us all about branding, media, video, and on-camera presence. Now, since I’ve launched the site and design business, my number one focus has been about branding – I stay true it 100%, but one thing I’ve always been a little fearful of is video and on-camera presence. Friends, it’s not good. I have no problem talking on panels or in front of an audience, but if a camera is in my face and “rolling” I forget my name, what my lines are, and just about everything else . . . so, setting my fears aside, I decided that Kelley was probably the only one person that could wash away those fears I’ve had for so long. Kelley pulled together a select group of industry experts to travel to Seattle to take her debut workshop. Day One: We learned how to define and refine our brand through a series of exercises. From the get go, each of us were in awe how a few exercises could make us think about our brands in a whole new way. We were then introduced to industry leaders that had compelling stories behind their brands. They shared their stories about the ups and downs of building their brands. Day Two: We kicked it off with learning how to pitch ourselves and our business. Kelley brought in a handful of experts that work in the TV/media industry. They gave us the confidence to embrace our stories to share with everyone. We were even able to have one-on-one time with a TV producer that listened to our pitches. This was in-valuable – when do you ever get to sit down and get experience like this? Never! This helped craft what each of us was going to focus on in our videos. Then it was time to write our scripts. Day Three: It’s time to be on camera. Insert the sweating, hyperventilating, and shaking of my body. After hair and makeup, it was time to get aquatinted with the film crew, and then it was action time. Honestly, I was still frightened, so Kelley came in and worked with me to craft my video. Without her help I probably wouldn’t have been able to get through the filming. Getting tips from Kelley along the way was an incredible experience. After a whirlwind three days I felt enlightened and inspired. Knowing that I was leaving with a professional branded video and head shots was invaluable. Now, it’s coming to a city near you! If you’ve been searching for the right workshop to attend for growing your business, I highly suggest signing up for one her next workshops. For more information on the workshop, pop over to “And We’re Live.” They’ll be coming to San Francisco, Seattle, New York, Chicago, Lost Angeles and Portland! A huge thank you goes out to Kelley for helping me conquer one of my fears. Now, enjoy my video! Photography by Belathee Photography #lifestyle

  • a brand new week . . .

I love the beginning of a new month. It always feels like a fresh start – with new projects, fun campaigns and travel adventures. This weekend was spent unpacking from our trip to Texas, planning for my trip in 10 days (can’t believe it’s coming so quickly), and getting my ducks in a row to start this week off on the right foot. I have a lot in store for you – a new Room Anatomy post that has me swooning, a feature on a workshop I took that helped me in more ways than one and a new On the Hunt post that is sure to have you making a purchase. A few things inspiring me this week – a little vignette from a recent look book shoot with Project Bly. I can’t wait to share this one with all of you. I hope all of you are starting off this February with a bang! Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • Weekend Inspiration

Happy February! Here in San Francisco we’re welcoming this month with warm weather, trees filled with cherry blossoms, and beautiful projects being designed. Each project I’m currently working on have me completely inspired – I’ll be spending this weekend getting lost in fabrics, furniture and tile. Here are are a few of my favorite reads this week. – Looking for the perfect grey paint? Design Sponge has you covered. – Two of my favorite ladies had their homes featured this week – Bianca transformed a garden apartment into a beautiful space and Kelley’s home just sold, take a look at the inspiring interiors. – Since the iPhone upgrade I haven’t loved the calendar . . . have you felt the same? Luckily, Oh Joy introduced me to Sunrise, which has a much cleaner and intuitive interface. – While staying with Camille we made this Sweet Potato Tortilla Soup – it’s easy and delicious! – Lastly, I’m finally thinking about packing for Istanbul and Paris. Joslyn just shared what she packed and it definitely got me started on my packing list. Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
