- a brand new week . . .
A new week is upon us – new endeavors to pursue and new challenges to tackle. I’m ready to take them all on! This weekend was all about planning details for my LA trip next week – my mom and I are going on a road trip to Santa Barbara and LA. I can’t wait to spend my days photographing inspiring creative’s for our “Workspace” series, eat at some of my favorite restaurants and take in some sunshine. If you have any shop, restaurant or museum recommendations please let me know! A few things inspiring me this week – Richard Avedon’s “Woman in the Mirror” book that I’m constantly looking at for inspiration, a vase from Heath that I keep by my bedside, a new spring Estée Lauder Coral Cult nail polish color that makes me long for spring, and succulents that sit around my apartment. I hope all of you have a fabulous week ahead! Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- Workspace: Book / Shop
My mom and I discovered Book / Shop last spring at a pop-up shop at Fort Mason. It was like love at first sight – honestly we didn’t know what to do with ourselves. Going through the stacks and stacks of books was incredibly inspiring and the owner – Erik, knew the history behind every single book we opened. Both my mom and I left with our hands full of books, posters and their signature “Book / Shop” tote. Both of us were in awe of our discovery. Luckily, Erik and his family opened their lovely Oakland home for me to shoot for this workspace series. Friends, this home is covered in amazing one-of-a-kind books that are in impeccable condition. Enjoy this look inside this beautiful workspace and an interview by Erik. Thank you Erik for opening up your beautiful home for us to see. We can’t wait for your shop to open! If you are a book lover like myself, be sure to pop over to Book / Shop where he uploads new finds all the time. Photos by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle #interiors
- Project Reveal: Jordan Park Home
Today I was thrilled to have the chance to finally share one of my latest projects that I’ve been working on. This two bedroom Edwardian condo was dream project – because my client was my mom. To some it may feel like a daunting task, but since our aesthetics and styles are incredibly similar it didn’t feel like work. Though we still plan to update the kitchen and bathroom, we made minor renovations prior to decorating – we painted the walls Benjamin Moore’s Mountain Peak White (the perfect white with no yellow hues) and installed beautiful French chandeliers in every room. After that was complete the fun part began – placing and buying the furniture and smalls for each room. I hope you enjoyed this peak into my project – pop over to Rue Magazine to see the entire feature and get sources for items! - On the Menu: Tangy Kale Caesar Salad
After everything I ate this past Sunday – it’s going to be a week (maybe month) of healthy eating. When Susan of Peas and Love and I were planning this months recipes I knew a salad would be in order this week. We wanted to reinvent a classic that everyone loves – a caesar salad. I’ve always loved caesar salad, but since the dressing isn’t healthy I try to not order it too often. Well friends, Susan’s spin on this favorite is delicious, tasty and healthy – can I get a “woot woot”? This is going to be my new lunch staple! Tangy Kale Caesar Salad To make Croutons: 3 pieces of sliced bread, cut up into small pieces 2 Tbsp Olive Oil 2 tsp Paprika Dashes of Salt and Pepper On a baking sheet, lay down bread pieces and drizzle over oil, coating all the bread well. Sprinkle over paprika, salt and pepper and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes until browned. Turn off heat, set aside and let cool. To make the dressing: 1 cup Raw Cashews, soaked for 2 hours minimum, rinsed and drained 1/4 cup fresh water Juice of 1 Lemon 1/4 cup Nutritional Yeast 2 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar 1 Tbsp Soy Sauce Blend all ingredients together until a smooth puree forms. Add drops of water to thin out if necessary, until desired consistency is achieved. In a bowl, combine 2 cups of chopped Lacinato Kale (stems discarded). Add in baked croutons and sprinkle in a tablespoon of sesame seeds. Pour dressing in, and mix well until all the leaves are coated. Serve and enjoy! - a brand new week . . .
Happy Monday! This weekend was quite mellow – got through stacks of magazines looking for client inspiration, stayed in both nights (which felt like a treat), started our taxes (not so fun), and got to spend some quality time with my favorite family gals – my mom, aunt and cousin. We definitely know how to have some fun. A few things inspiring me – an Object & Totem necklace from Pretty Mommy, beautiful white anemones that I got to take home from a photo shoot, and a new magazine I just discovered called Milk Decoration, which is amazing! Also, I’d like to announce the winner of the Roztayger handbag giveaway – CONGRATS Claire Zinnecker on winning the Clare Vivier items! I’ll be emailing you shortly with more information. For those who didn’t win – Roztayger is offering 10% for a week with promo code SAC10! Happy first full week of February and the start to fashion week! Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- Girlfriends’ Valentine’s Brunch (and a Giveaway!)
Valentine’s day is right around the corner and although you might be making plans with your honey, sometimes it can be about showing your friends that you care about them!! This year I decided to host a little soiree to celebrate a special group of girlfriends that have supported me this year – close friends and our Sacramento Street contributors (a new lovely lady debuting next week!). Minted was kind enough to provide a Valentine’s Day party in a box, which was perfect for the occasion – striped straws, signs, colorful paper goods for the table, and tags. It was fun dreaming up this girlie-girl tabletop – a bit out of my normal (neutral colored) comfort zone but it definitely had to happen for this Valentine’s Day brunch. My essentials for any brunch tabletop – clean cut tulips from the grocery store, bright linen napkins, candy in the colors your decorating the table with and lastly, a fun drink to serve guests as they arrive (in this case blood orange soda with prosecco). One of my favorite things to do for parties is to have something special for guests – in this case, I worked with Minted on creating personalized journals for each of my girlfriends. It was fun to add them to the tabletop as their place card. When you combine love, laughter and amazing friends around a table, there really isn’t anything better! This brunch made me realize I need to host more parties to celebrate the girlfriends I love. Now for the fun part! Minted is giving away a $150 gift certificate good for any Valentine’s Day items! Perfect for the holiday that is right around the corner Here’s how to enter the Minted Valentine’s day giveaway: ~ Leave a comment on this post, telling us which Valentine’s Day items are your favorite from Minted – classroom sized valentines, regular valentines, gift tags, journals, art prints, or the party in a box (which I featured). That’s it! Just be sure to include your email address. ~ One winner will be chosen randomly and win a $150 gift certificate good for any Valentine’s Day items on the site! The winner will be chosen randomly and announced on Monday, February 4th! UPDATE: Congrats to Whitney for being our winner this time! You’ll be receiving an email shortly. - a brand new week . . .
Can you believe it’s the last week of January? Boy did the month fly! This weekend we were graced with beautiful weather, I hosted a brunch for a group of girlfriends (that will be featured later this week), checked off another Oscar nominated movie (Silver Linings Playbook, which was amazing!) and topped off the weekend with a clothing swap – I can’t wait to see how I’ll style my newly acquired items. My inspiration comes from a photo I took this weekend when all my things were scattered across the dining room table – that’s what happens when I’m on the go (this routine needs to change, but I thought I’d share it with you). I revived my navy Clare Vivier messenger from my closet (perfect for running around the city), received a new Everlane stash (my new go-to shop for staples), and finalized travel plans for this spring. I hope all of you have a lovely start to your week! There are lots of exciting features happening this week so be sure to check back regularly. Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
