  • Style: The Age of Aquarius

As spring quickly moves toward the summer, I look forward to warm days outdoors with my sweet boy. I’ve wanted to buy Jackson a pair of overalls since he was born, and I finally had the chance on a shopping adventure at Old Navy. I felt like I had been transported back to the time of Peace & Love of the 1970s. An abundance of denim, fringe, and floral printed fabrics all reminded me of photographs of my parents in their college days. It was so much fun finding clothes that can be both versatile and nostalgic. For Jackson, I chose a pair of denim overalls, blue sandals, and a blue floral shirt. I couldn’t help myself with this sweet nod to the 1970s. Every time I look at Jackson in this outfit, I have to smile. He looks so happy and carefree! I also had a great time coming up with an outfit for me to wear. I wanted to keep with the blue I had chosen in Jackson’s outfit, so I chose an adorable short dress that is loose and comfortable for the warm summer days quickly approaching. I paired it with a jean jacket that is versatile and easy to throw on when the evening air is a bit brisk – or in the case of San Francisco – when the fog rolls in. I also got a pair of flat sandals that I will be sporting often. Outfit Details Caitlin: Printed Pintucked Dress in Light Blue| Denim Jacket | Textured Double-Strap Sandals in White | Matte Sunglasses in Tortoise Shell Jackson: Blue Floral Shirt | Denim Overalls | Sueded Sandals in goodnight nora I have to tell you, there is so much to choose from at Old Navy this spring and I wouldn’t waste a minute to head out for a shopping trip to update your wardrobe as well as the wardrobe of your little ones. You can buy adorable clothing and not break the bank. Something many of us try to do more these days! This post is a partnership with Old Navy. All opinions are my own. • Entertaining: Adding a Global Beat with Target

With a frantic pace of running after a toddler and trying to get my work done, I often forget to slow down and enjoy the people I love. Friends and family are so important and it can be a great pause from our hectic lifestyles when we invite them over for a meal. I have to admit, the best part of entertaining for me is setting the table. I like to have an element of surprise in my design. And you don’t have the break the bank to do it. I recently welcomed a friend home from a trip to Africa with a lunch that had a bit of a global beat to it. I couldn’t wait to hear all her travels tales! I found jaw-dropping items recently at Target and knew I needed to add them to my tabletop for this dinner. The great thing about the items I bought is that they can work in a variety of ways. My idea for the table began when I was at Target and saw a pair of hurricane candles made of mango wood, metal, and glass. Everything else that went into my cart worked with the safari global look I was trying to create. I then found a smoky colored vase with a lovely gold rim, blue napkins with a small fringe, and a tray that went perfectly with my hurricane candles. The coup d’état were the brass giraffe’s that Nate Berkus created for Target. I actually found them in the stationary section of the store – it pays to look everywhere! I plan to eventually use them in my son’s bedroom for his desk, but for now, they are going on my dining room table. Products Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White Dinner Plate | Riedel Vivant Merlot Tumblers | Threshold™ Square Rim Bowl in White | Threshold™ Chambray Napkin with Fringe in Blue | Threshold Vase in Smokey Brown Glass | Carved Wood Tray with Silver Handle | Threshold™ Mango Wood Abstract Pillar Holder in Small | Torre & Tagus Prime Palm Wax Pillar Candle in Ivory | Nate Berkus™ Decorative Giraffe Figure in Gold 3 Tips for a Global Table: 1. To keep it easy the day of your soirée, organize everything on a tray you can later use for serving. 2. Bring the outdoors inside. I did this with jasmine vines from the garden and wood hurricane candle holders that look like they could be on a safari. 3. Find something that represents the place you are trying to evoke. I chose brass giraffe’s to add height and warm up the table. I always like to set the table ahead of time so I can concentrate on making a fabulous meal. I try to use a variety of flowers, but you can also just cut greenery from your garden. It’s the extra effort that makes the table look fresh and alive. Plain white plates and bowls from Target mix nicely with whatever you’re trying to create. We might not be going on a safari, but the safari can certainly come home with us! • On the Menu: Persian Breakfast

One meal that I’m constantly failing at is breakfast. It’s a constant battle to find time to make something healthy for myself when madness is happening around me. I’ve been trying to make more of an effort to take the time to feed myself along with the boys. It happens about two times a week, which is progress. When Amanda came up with the Persian breakfast bowl I jumped at the chance to make it. It’s my new go-to meal in the morning. If you are looking for that perfect breakfast this might just be what you are looking for. Persian Breakfast Ingredients 1 quart full fat plain yogurt salt Serve with: feta cheese olive oil blood oranges cucumbers radishes jam mint z’atar Directions 1.) Combine yogurt and large pinch of salt together in a bowl. Pour yogurt into a cheesecloth lined strainer and suspend strainer over a bowl. Fold cheesecloth over yogurt and strain overnight or until most of the liquid has drained from the yogurt. 2.) Serve lebneh with feta cheese, olive oil, blood oranges, z’atar, cucumber, radishes, jam, mint and fresh bread. Recipe & Photos by Amanda Frederickson #entertaining #cooking

  • Workspace: Tina Frey Designs

I’ve spotted Tina Frey’s work at some of my favorite boutiques – Calypso, Serena & Lily, and many more. Her work with resin stopped me dead in my tracks. First of all, her colors are stunning and the designs were perfect for the homes of many of my clients. Her trays and ice buckets are always a hit with them. Little did I know, she was right here in San Francisco. So I set out to see her studio in person and let me tell you – it’s one you shouldn’t miss. It was such an incredible treat to see everything – all the styles, colors, future collections in person. Read on to hear more from Tina herself! For our readers who aren’t yet familiar with your work, describe to us briefly what Tina Frey Designs is all about. Tina Frey Designs started as a company of modern designs in resin. The pieces in the collection are mainly functional and sculptural at the same time. The collection has now expanded to include solid polished brass, copper, paper, and textiles. All the designs start with a sculpted design in clay, before they are molded and cast in resin and are completely made by hand. The new metal collection mimics the soft look and feel of the resin collection since they are also completely hand made by hand hammering. The paper and textiles have their graphics translated into 2 dimensions from the photographs of the resin collection. “Artist” hasn’t always been your job title. Tell us a little about what you did before this and how the transition evolved. I have been creative my entire life and always thought this was too much fun that it dd not occur to me it could be my profession since that is supposed to be “work”. My studies were initially in biology and chemistry, followed by a degree in finance and accounting. This has all come in handy! I have always worked with product companies and 8 years ago, I realized that if I did not pursue my creative dreams, I would regret it. So I dove in without knowing what to expect. I prefer not to call myself an artist and refer to myself as a designer since the things I create have a function and purpose, which seems to be in sync with the practical side of my brain. You’ve clearly found success in pursuing your passions. What are three things that you think played the biggest role in your success? Perseverance, hard work, and following your heart You don’t see resin used often in the design world. What exactly IS resin and what inspired you to select it as your material of choice? There are not many people working in resin. I love the qualities of resin which can look like porcelain, glass, or look soft. It invites people to want to touch the pieces and they are often surprised to discover that they are resin. There are many types of resin and the natural form is amber, which comes from trees. There are also many types of synthetic resin and the one I use is polyester based, which allows the pieces to be completely handmade and hand cast without the use of heat or machines in the creation since the material cures. The resin I use is food safe and the colors are all lead free. I chose this type since I wanted to use a material that is versatile and more durable than glass or ceramic, which allows for more uses for outdoor or poolside. I also chose the material since the pieces are meant to have a function with longevity. Your aesthetic is so unique and distinguished. How would you define it? What inspired it at the beginning? I like simplicity in my designs and shapes in calming colors, with the occasional pop of color which changes seasonally. I am inspired by nature, the rocks, driftwood, or beach glass that has been polished by the sea. I am also inspired by travel and the colors and textures I encounter. What do you enjoy most about your job? I love being creative and being inspired by things I see in nature or in my travels. I also get to work with great people and this makes it all very fun! A special thanks to Tina and her studio team for sharing their beautiful space with us! For past workspace features, pop over here to get inspired! • Five Ways to Stay Organized with Kids

I’ve always prided myself in being a relatively organized person. I have a place for everything and I try not to buy things I don’t need to avoid clutter in our home. Then I became a mom and that has been much more difficult to pull off. Children have so many different contraptions at different stages of their life and the toys – don’t even get me started! My home was getting cluttered and I didn’t like it at all. Toys in every corner of the living room, Jackson’s closet and drawers bursting at the seams – something had to give. TaskRabbit came to my rescue with this disaster about to happen! While I probably could have accomplished it on my own, the trouble is finding the time. It was so effortless and now I feel much more at home in my own home. Here are some great tips I learned that can help you to stay organized too: 1. Keep toys organized by category. TaskRabbit suggested wicker baskets under the daybed in Jackson’s room. He absolutely loves them and knows which basket to pull out if he wants to shoot hoops or play with his many stuffed animals. He even puts the toys back when he’s finished. 2. Don’t over buy. It helps to be mindful about what you actually bring home. If you find something you love, think about purchasing it for a few days and if you still think you should purchase it, by all means do so! You’ll have less clutter in the future if you don’t buy as much. 3. Edit, edit, edit. I had baskets before we organized but they were filled with all kinds of toys mixed together. By categorizing the toys, they are easy to find and we use them much more. I created two piles: one to donate to a local homeless shelter, and the other to keep. 4. You can choose containers that go with your décor. I selected wicker baskets that add texture and don’t take away from the look of the room. I want to have toys in my living room but I don’t want it to look like a playroom! 5. If you can’t get organized, find someone to help you. I had intended to organize Jackson’s things, but I never got around to it. TaskRabbit was the perfect solution to getting it done right! When my TaskRabbit, Lily, left I had this sense of calm throughout the house. Do you have an area of your house that has been haunting you? A closet, corner or storage unit. Now is the time to check it off your to-do list and stop dreading the idea of getting it done. I’ve got a code you can use to tackle any spring cleaning chore off the list! Enter SACRAMENTO to receive $20 off same day tasks with TaskRabbit. I hope this sets you on a path of organizational bliss. I know I smile every time I look at my newly organized home. • Style: Effortless Clothes for Travel

Every year, my husband leaves for Spring Training in Arizona. Of course, this means Jackson and I get to go visit him and enjoy the warm weather by going to baseball games, sitting by the pool, and exploring new places. Packing for these trips can be challenging since the weather is so much warmer than we are accustomed to. Packing Details Caitlin: Boyfriend shorts | Crochet Tank in white | Tie Waist Shirt Dress in blue stripe | Capri Sandal in nude | Striped Clutch Jackson: French Terry Sweatshirt in heather grey | Striped Chambray One-Piece | Plaid Poplin Pullover | French Terry Striped Knit Top | Drawstring Jean Shorts | Sueded Sandals in goodnight nora This year, my packing started to take shape when I went to Old Navy to pick up sandals for my son. Let me tell you, I ended up picking up much more than just a pair of sandals. Before I knew it, my cart was filled with adorable shorts, t-shirts, sandals, and button downs. As I looked at what I had chosen for Jackson, everything was blue and white – my favorite go-to colors for summer. Before I left the store, I had both clothes for him, as well as clothes for myself. I look forward to our “Mini Me” wardrobe – I also ended up with all of my choices in blue and white. There is nothing I love better than stripes and faded blue jeans for our more relaxed season of summer. I found comfortable dresses, boho embroidery tops, and jean shorts that will be my go-to in Arizona as well as this summer. Jackson and I will be able to look great with effortless clothing that looks both fresh as well as a bit preppy. Outfit Details Caitlin: Tie Waist Shirt Dress in blue stripe | Capri Sandal in nude Jackson: French Terry Striped Knit Top | Drawstring Jean Shorts | Sueded Sandals in goodnight nora I have always found choosing my wardrobe for a trip to be a fun and yet challenging task. One tip I have found that help my packing easier, is to chose colors in the same family and stick to them. In the winter I turn to neutrals and in the summer, blue and white are the perfect combination. You don’t have to break the bank to look good – just put a little planning into what you buy! Head over to Old Navy and not only will you find great clothes for you and your little one, you also won’t break the bank buying them. Happy shopping! This post is a partnership with Old Navy. • Real Talk / Real Moms: Self-Care

The topic of self-care for moms can be interpreted in so many different ways. A good mother can be loving, nurturing and giving to her child (or children), but what about doing the same for herself? This is something I’ve had to think a lot about since having Jackson. The importance of self-care can be incredibly difficult to make happen. Since becoming a mom, I’ve fallen under the new-mom trap where I debate with myself if I should go to pilates or be home for when Jackson wakes up in the morning. Should I go out with my girlfriends for a night out or miss bedtime. Take a trip for pleasure/work or miss seeing him for a few days. These are probably the same things that go through any moms head when they are making decisions to take some much needed me time. But what I also find is that I sometimes can’t even find the time to take the photography class I’ve signed up for and keep postponing. It’s a struggle and it’s real. When you become a mom there are two things that happen – 1) your priorities completely shift and you go into this mode where you are taking care of the family, making sure they are healthy, happy, food is on the table, etc. 2) you put your needs on the back burner but you always having it there on one shoulder saying make time for pilates this week, go get a blow out so that you don’t show up to another client meeting with a wet bun or take those 10 minutes between meetings to check emails and go get a coffee. In my hectic lifestyle I can sum up with a handful of things that make me incredibly happy, that make me feel fulfilled and when I go to sleep at the end of the day it makes me smile if I get some or one of these things in for myself. 1.) Morning cup of tea. Sometimes this happens by myself in the morning before everyone is up or I enjoy it while we run around trying to get ready for the day. 2.) A workout. This may consist of actually booking a pilates class or taking a walk with Jackson at the end of the day in order to get some fresh air. Sometimes it’s a magical day when I get both of these in (usually Wednesday). 3.) Take a pause. As I get caught up in my days I find that the most important thing to do when I start to go a little coo-coo is take a pause. Step away from what I’m doing and come back to it 15 to 20 minutes later. It makes a whirlwind of difference to have that time. 4.) Friends. This is a hard one to find time for, which it shouldn’t be. Even if it’s talking to my girlfriends on the phone or sending them a text just to check in on life, it’s important to keep those relationships because they are my rocks when I need them. 5.) Eating dinner with my family. This is a HUGE priority in our house and something I cherish every night. It’s a moment for all of us to check in with each other and where there are absolutely no distractions – well except for Jackson throwing food on the floor. I come away from our family dinner feeling less stressed and I have a sense calmness before finishing the tasks that need to be done before going to bed. 6.) Sleep. So important in order for me to have my sanity for the next day. No matter how long my to-do list is I have to get a good night sleep or else I’m worthless the next day. I’ve learned that I can’t always get everything done and that is just OK. Self-care can take on a different meaning for everyone. I felt a little bit hesitant writing about how I view my own self-care but it’s important to know that self-care is about doing something for yourself that you love. It doesn’t have to be something you do alone but more importantly something for you. I hope that by reading all of our different rituals of self-care that it inspires or motivates you to start to do a few more things for yourself. Even if you aren’t a mom, it’s something that every woman needs to prioritize. • On the Menu: Morning Buns

Baking has never been my strong suit. I’m known for misreading recipes and putting too much oil or burning an entire batch of cookies because I didn’t set a timer. Let’s just say, Jackson will be learning his baking skills from Eric. I’ve been banned from baking, but that doesn’t mean I don’t look for recipes for my hubby to make for me. Baked goods are something I’m constantly craving – can you ever have enough of them? These morning buns by Amanda are ADDICTING. They may take a little bit of time to make but they are well worth it friends. Make them on a Sunday for your work week or for a brunch. Enjoy this one that Amanda created! Morning Buns Ingredients 1 recipe for croissant dough (this is my all time favorite recipe) 1 stick butter, softened to room temperature 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon zest of 1 orange pinch of salt Make the croissant dough according to the instruction here and chill until ready to bake. Directions 1.) Pre-heat oven to 375F. Butter and sugar two muffin tins. 2.) In a small bowl combine the butter, sugars, cinnamon, orange zest and pinch of salt. Mix well to combine. 3.) Roll the dough into a 16 x 20 rectangle. Spread the sugar and butter mixture over the dough. Starting at the longest side, roll the dough into a long tube. Cut the tube into 1″ pieces and place each piece in the prepared muffin tins. Refrigerate the dough in the muffin tin for at least 30 minutes, then bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the buns are flaky and golden brown. • Curator Shop with Minted Home

I’m thrilled to announce my latest collaboration with Minted Home. As someone who loves travel and finds inspiration everywhere I go, my curated collection awakens the patterns and shapes I’ve seen over the years. The criss-crossed design I chose can be used for pillows, napkins, and even lampshades. It looks similar to the motif found on the beautiful wool rugs I saw while traveling in Marrakesh, Morocco. The great part about this design by Hooray Creative is it can blend with a wide array of design styles. I see them fitting is with both a modern home as well as a more traditional abode. The lampshade is also a great choice to add subtle pattern in a room that is primarily neutrals. Another pattern I fell head-over-heels for Mosaic by Lindsay Megahed, as well as the Hand-Dyed Shibori Diamonds by Flora Poste Studio. These jaw-dropping designs also keep in step with my love for pattern that can work in a neutral home. You can spruce up your home for spring with both of these lovely choices. There are also pillows and napkins in Division by Katie Jarmon that would blend perfectly in a neutral palate. Finally, if you need art for your walls, I have you covered with two perfect choices. Run don’t walk, to the my Minted Home Curator Page and enjoy these beautiful pieces I’ve chosen for you. It’s the perfect time to make a seasonal update to your home since spring is a week away – mix and match fabrics and artwork to easily update your space. I promise, they won’t disappoint!
