- Styling Work: Food52 x Elsie Green
One of my top places to frequent for props and items for the homes I design as well as my own home is Elsie Green. I have never left empty handed! Everything in their store comes from what they collect on their travels to France, Morocco and beyond. It’s like walking into a treasure cove! Elsie Green just went live with the most incredible collection of furniture with Food52. Based on the styles they had seen on their travels, these pieces are so perfect! Just like their vintage items, they have managed to create furniture that is the perfect mix between modern and classic lines. Made with sustainable materials and reclaimed wood, I am certain they will be a hit! One of the best things about this line of furniture is your ability to customize details to make it work for your home. And there isn’t a group of folks who are more accommodating and nice to work with! It was such a treat working with both Elsie Green and Leslie of Spotted SF to produce this incredible shoot. - Interiors: Creating an Organic Sanctuary
Ever since I re-designed Jackson’s room I’ve had a little bit of jealousy – I’m in love with his room. So I decided to give our Master Bedroom a winter update that both Eric and I can retreat to that is cozy during these chillier months. I have always cared deeply about the linens on my bed. After all, we spend a good amount of time in bed in our lifetime. While the mattress is important, so too are the linens we choose to use on our beds. I prefer linens that are organic cotton or linen and cool to the touch. I teamed up with Coyuchi (based here in SF) to show you how to create the perfect bed with organic bed linens. Coyuchi has been producing organic linens for the past 25 years. They were making them before it was a widely practiced alternative. Knowing where my linens are made and how they make them, gives me peace of mind. The products Coyuchi makes also add texture and a natural element to your bed. On my bed I wanted to have the linens create a calm retreat from my hectic life. I chose a neutral palette to counter my colorful life! ON THE BED A set of crisp white cotton sheets (always my favorite) White organic blanket Gray flannel duvet cover (the softest I’ve ever felt) Charcoal blanket (for those extra cold night) Charcoal alpaca pebble knit pillows (the knit of these is spectacular!) Finished it off with a white braided rope lumbar pillow in the front On my son’s first bed out of his crib, I had so much fun deciding which linens to use. He love hiswhite flannel sheetsand cozywhite organic blanket(more details onhis room here)! They are so soft to the touch and he has transitioned flawlessly to his new bed. I also placed agrey striped wool blanketat the end of the bed. It looks so nice with theRippled Stripe Pillow Cover. It isn’t just about how the beds looks, it also has to do with the health of your family. No harsh chemicals are used and you can feel secure about the health and safety of your loved ones. I couldn’t be happier with how it all came together. My husband and I have never slept better! This post is a partnership with Coyuchi. All opinions are my own. - Interiors: Layering a Kids Bed
I’ve been getting a lot of questions centered around Jackson’s bedroom makeover – especially the way I layered his bed. By the end of each day it never looks like put together – the pillows are usually on the floor. I wanted a layered bed that is inviting and fun. I started with Coyuchi flannel sheets (in white) and let me tell you, they are the softest most wonderful sheets I have ever touched. They are perfect way to lure Jackson out of his crib and into his big boy bed, which he still doesn’t sleep in but we are trying. The cozy cotton bed cover, organic striped pillow cover, and wool blanket at the end of the bed (a favorite for chilly nights) are all from Coyuchi. The quality of their products is unsurpassed and they are my go-to source for bedding. Many of you have been asking about the headboard – one of my personal favorites in his room. I had envisioned being able to switch out different textiles on his bed – maybe a vintage indigo piece, etc. I found beautiful products at Hollywood at Home to add the layers of texture and interest to the bed. Probably my favorite change to the bed is the hand-loomed wool bed cover from India that I placed on the headboard. It not only adds texture, but gives the bed more depth. I also couldn’t resist a pillow made of Peter Dunham fabric that depicts a world map. Travel is such an important part of our lives and it finishes off the bed perfectly. WHEN YOU LAYER A BED, CONSIDER A FEW THINGS I’VE FOUND HELPFUL Begin with a nice pair of sheets. You can use plain sheets or pattern – it really depends on your taste and what you’re trying to achieve. I like to use a bedcover that is easy to care for – believe it or not – white bedcovers are easy to wash and always look fresh and clean. Consider choosing a variety of pillows. I think this is where you can really play. I often change the pillows seasonally. If you want to add more texture and interest to a bed, think about using a unique vintage textile or something more unique than the linens you are sleeping with. Don’t forget comfort. The most beautiful bed also needs to be comfortable. We got Jackson a Helix mattress and it’s been so dreamy. Not only that, it was delivered to our home in a box! So easy to unpack and use. - New Year, New Intentions
Hello 2018, Happy New Year everyone! I hope you had a lovely holiday with your friends and family. After our little staycation here in San Francisco I’m definitely ready to jump into 2018. A new year, brings a fresh start. This year, I have come up with a few intentions that I hope can help me stay on top of things. My husband will be traveling more for work this year and I have some VERY exciting new projects on the horizon, so staying in touch with these intentions is particularly important over the next twelve months. CLEAR THE CLUTTER This has always been important in our house. I have a difficult time concentrating with disorder around me. I spent the week after Christmas going through all the closets. It’s a constant challenge to keep the number of toys in check. My son has so many trucks and trains! I’m still struggling with a way to store all of them. I finally did a little purge of his toys to see if he even notices if any are gone. It’s all about take baby steps to getting organized but with each closet, drawer and shelf that gets cleaned up it makes me so much happier. PLAN AHEAD This is something that I have always been good at doing. That is, until I had my daughter in June. Somehow having two kids under the age of three has been a challenge in keeping with my “plan ahead” mentality. I’m still pretty good about tidying up before I go to bed, but sometimes making my lists of what to get done the next day can slip. My brain is just unable to concentrate. Sleepless nights aren’t conducive to planning ahead. Things are beginning to improve and I want to return to making a list for the next day. SLEEP I know I am better with a full night of sleep. I have to admit, in college I was the one who never went to bed past eleven and usually earlier. I prefer to be productive during the day and recharge at night. This can be more challenging with a baby, but we do pretty good! Now with two kids I treasure my sleep even more. MORE DATES WITH MY HUSBAND I want to make this a priority this year. We are often so busy with one kiddo or the other, and taking time for the two of us is important. I hope we can get into a routine of taking a date a few times a month (and maybe even a weeknight – crazy, right?!). TAKE TIME FOR MYSELF Self-care is important. Finding the time is hard, it took me five months to find time to return to pilates after having Amelia. Now that I’m back, I want to be sure I stick to it. It makes me feel good and also helps me to have more energy. What are your goals for 2018? I’d love to know!
- Blooms in Season: Winter Whites
Winter has finally officially arrived! This month for our Blooms in Season collaboration, Natalie has put together a stunning winter inspired arrangement. I almost exclusively use white flowers (I know, crazy right?) and this combination has me swooning. I love the way Natalie’s use of natural items you could find in your backyard – branches, fir swags, cedar – all evoking winter. And the paper whites and peonies look like the snow of winter! Hope this brings you a little dose of inspiration as you are setting your holiday tables this coming weekend for family and friends. Happy holiday weekend everyone! - Style: My Current Uniform
As most of you know, I primarily stick to a neutral wardrobe. It makes for easy choices when I open my closet in the morning and I just feel more comfortable in less color. This season, I’ve begun to let blue creep into the mix. And while it may seem an unlikely mix, I love wearing navy with black. I have paired jeans with a navy blouse(similar top, hereandhere)I recently bought at WM Goods in Portland. But what really finishes off the look is my black cashmere jacket byLan Jaenicke(alternativeshere). The navy and black actually look great together and soften an all-black look. Navy has been a great addition to my neutral wardrobe! Finished off the outfit withmy go-to mules(similar ones here)– there is something so easy about slipping them on and off all day long.
- On the Menu: Warm Peppermint Mocha
As the it begins to get cold across the nation, even here is San Francisco I’ve been craving warm drinks. The Citizenry (one of my go-to shops for gift giving!) reached out to partner together on getting into the kitchen to make something warm that anyone can enjoy in their own home. And with the holiday season in full swing I wanted to create something festive – that’s why I teamed up with As Quoted (my local coffee shop) to create the perfect drink this season that will keep you warm and get you in the holiday spirit. They are even offering them this weekend for everyone while their kids decorate holiday gingerbread! Here is how to make your very own at home – it’s so SIMPLE! PEPPERMINT MOCHA Ingredients 3/4 cup steamed or warmed milk of your choice (almond milk, regular milk, etc) 3 tbsp drinking chocolate 1/4 tsp alcohol free peppermint extract* 2 tbsp liquid sweetener (optional) 1 double shot of espresso garnish: whipped cream and/or marshmallows Directions 1. Warm milk over low heat. 2. Whisk in drinking chocolate, peppermint extract (and sweetener) to espresso shot until dissolved. 3. Pour in warmed milk and garnish with a dollop of whipped cream or marshmallows. *if your extract contains alcohol, you may add this to the milk before warming. There is nothing I love more than curling up with something festive to drink throughout the holidays. Luckily, The Citizenry makes it even better with their cozy throws and stunning ceramics. It makes me want to do it on a daily basis! Hope you all enjoy this holiday recipe with family and friends. Also, don’t forget to check out Gift Guides! This post is a partnership with The Citizenry. - DIY: Creating the Perfect Gifts with Citrus Peels
As the days get shorter and shorter, and the sun is lower in the horizon, I am looking for ways to bring the sunshine into our lives. I always get a bounce in my step when I see Cuties at the grocery store. In our family, Cuties Citrus are the perfect snack – healthy, delicious, and so easy to peel and eat anywhere. We all love them so much we have a hard time keeping them in our house! During the holidays, we thought we’d give Cuties Citrus as the gift for teachers at our son’s preschool. The parents of the school contribute to a fund for the teachers but we thought a small thoughtful gift would also be nice. I just bought some pretty gold bags and dressed them up with greenery and stars made from the clementine skin. They are easy to prepare and who doesn’t love a bag of Cuties? One of the reasons I chose to give them Cuties Citrus, is that there is a story behind why they are common gifts at Christmas. My grandmother always put them in our stockings and my mother has continued this tradition. During the Great Depression of the 1930s, money was scarce and fresh fruit was considered a luxury. In addition, the segments of the Clementine’s are a symbol of the ability to share. And this is definitely one of the things the teachers have helped to teach my son. Remember to pick up Cuties Citrus on your next trip to the grocers. They are sweet, seedless, and the perfect size for kids. Honestly, they are a snack you want to share with those you love! This post is a partnership with Cuties Citrus. All opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting sponsored posts that keep Sacramento Street doors open.
