  • Finding the Perfect Window Treatments with Wovn Home

A big part of what drew me to our home was the abundance of natural light that floods the windows throughout the space. I knew that finding the right window coverings for each window that still allowed us to enjoy the light, was important. For most of the windows in our home, I opted for Roman Shades–which allow a beautiful filtered light to trickle through, while easily folding up when not in use. Our kitchen windows were another priority, although I knew we would need a different window treatment option. While I wanted to make sure we let in plenty of light–privacy was also key as our kitchen windows directly face our neighbors. I knew that cafe curtains would be the perfect fit. Cafe curtains are fitted to the lower half of the window frame, and let in light from above while keeping privacy at the eye-level. They add a touch of warmth, texture and personality to our kitchen that I truly love. I discovered Wovn Home while sourcing for clients–and have always wanted to incorporate them in our home. I always look for a brand whose ethos centers around offering a seamless way to incorporate custom pieces into your home and Wovn Home does just that. Wovn Home offers custom Roman shades in three different styles which makes making your decision incredibly streamlined. Each treatment is 100% linen and is sourced directly from premium textile mills in Belgium. For our space, I wanted an option that would blend seamlessly with the color and hue of our walls, which are Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore so I opted for the flat shade in soft snow for both our Roman shades and cafe curtains. Its the perfect neutral hue that adds a hint of textural contrast and depth to our light walls. In our kitchen I wanted to add a little pattern to the space. After having several samples up for a month I decided on the Decors Barbares fabric Polonaise in blue. Ordering with Wovn Home was a breeze–as I was guided through a simple process of taking basic measurements of each window. Wovn Home allows you to choose your choice of cord position, lining and mounting position which I loved. Each order takes around four weeks to arrive which is relatively quick in the world of custom design. I was so impressed with not only the quality but overall the ease of ordering and end-to-end installation process. They filter the light perfectly, and complement our style so timelessly. I would definitely order again and always share Wovn Home with clients and folks asking for a great custom yet affordable window treatment option!

  • A Moment with Lan Jaenicke

I’ve learned so much about beauty and grace from Lan Jaenicke. Upon meeting Lan years ago she immediately welcomed me into her inner circle. She is truly the kindest and most elegant friend of mine. We continue to learn and grow from one another. In Travel Home, we featured her home in San Francisco. It was one of our most memorable photo shoots for the book. We are featuring her home in Cloverdale in our upcoming book (launches in September) Sense of Place. On her Journal today I'm chatting about how Lan and I met, details about Sense of Place, my favorite pieces from Lan and much more! Every piece of clothing I have from Lan’s collections are the foundation of my wardrobe. The perfect jackets year round in San Francisco are a must. And my silk skirts are essential for trips and can be dressed up or down easily. The workhorse of my wardrobe are my pair of drawstring cashmere pants - I wore on the many road trips for writing both books. The lines and cuts of her designs are flattering, sophisticated, and beautiful. Each year I select a piece to add to my wardrobe from her collection - they are an investment for a lifetime. • Closet Reveal with California Closets and Shira Gill

After six months of crossing the globe for my upcoming book with barely enough time to repack for each adventure, my closet needed some serious help. I had recently redone the front hall closet to make it my primary closet. California Closets did an amazing job helping me to design a space that met all of my needs. But with a crazy schedule, it wasn’t staying organized. I turned to my friend, Shira Gill, to help me come up with a system to keep it working and organized. To say the least, her advice, which can also be found in Minimalista, her amazing book on organization, was the solution I needed. My goal, now that the heavy travel is finished for the moment, is to take her advice and make wise choices and healthy habits to help me live more efficiently. Shira recommends the following steps toward an organized home: Step One: Clarify: You need to know what you want and in order to do this, you need to figure out the goals for the space. I knew I wanted a calm and organized space with a feeling of who I was. Step Two: Edit: This has always been pretty easy for me. I only buy things I love but over time some of them I am willing to let go of. When there is less you own, there is less to keep organized. Some questions Shira suggested I ask are: Is this item really worth the space it occupies in my closet? Is this item adding value to my life? Does this item energize or drain me? Step Three: Organize: This was the fun part and Shira was able to define particular spaces for different items. Dresses, blouses, coats and jackets were hung. Sweaters and jeans were folded on the six-foot shelves. Wicker bins were for scarves and swim suits and drawers for the other items. Step Four: Elevate: This was definitely my favorite part! I love figuring out the personal touches for a space. I added family photos, a small rug, a mirror, and artwork by William McClure. Now when I open the closet and step in, I feel as if it is a space especially for me. Step Five: Maintain: This is probably the hardest part for me. But now that I have a clear picture of how to keep it organized, I stand a good chance for success. The help I received from Shira helped to elevate the space to something I look forward to spending time in. Now if I can just keep it that way! Working on my closet with California Closets and Shira was a dream. Hope you enjoyed this reveal and tips. Click here to order Shira's book, Minimalista. • Entertaining: Summer Vibes

It's hard to believe that July is only two days away. We're all about summer in our household - camps are in full swing, we're dining alfresco any chance we can get and when the fog rolls out and we get a dose of sunshine we take full advantage of it. I'm setting the table with these new Shoppe Amber Interiors favorites. Loving the new Folklore dinnerware collection - the glaze is beautiful. I paired them with the Healdsburg napkins in natural. Is there anything better than having a few pieces you love to set a table outdoors for a meal with family? One of the joys of summer. Another favorite that I love for the kitchen and on the table is this brass pepper mill. It's a staple that both my husband and I can't live without! Shopper Amber Interiors is having a 20% off sale this weekend with code JULY20 and you can always get 15% off with code CAITLINFLEMMING15.

  • Gift Guide: Father's Day

Father's Day this year is a little more special for our family. Typically Eric is traveling 140-150 days a year and usually isn't home to celebrate as a family, but with him leaving his job in March, we have had the full "Dad" experience this year with him being home every day in 2022. Ironically, it will be me traveling this year during Father's Day as my Mom and I embark on a 16 day trip to the UK to shoot some wonderful homes for our second book (the first book, Travel Home can be purchased here). We are not the best family at loading up on gifts for special occasions (we tend to spread the gifts out over time, IE - "here are some new pants in May, consider it an early Father's Day gift!"). Below are some items Eric has loved receiving over the past few months and some small surprises I have for the kids to give him on Father's Day! BlueJay Bike - We loved our first BlueJay bike so much, we got a second! Now we can go everywhere as a family on bikes. Eric takes both kids on his bike, Amelia in the kid seat and Jackson in the Burley. Living in SF, it has made getting to practices/Bday parties/School so much easier for us as a family. Use code Caitlin10 to get 10% plus free shipping and assembly (through June). These items from Faherty are the "surprise' for Eric. The kids wanted to transition him to some nice Summer clothes. Shorts Sweatpants Long-sleeve Polo (Summer in SF is cold) Shoes This tea kettle gets used 2-3 times a day now that Eric is home daily. He has also become a regular juicer in his "retirement". Finally, with more time to work out (and age increasing), the TheraGun has become a daily staple in his recovery.

  • Summer Bedding Refresh with Heather Taylor Home

Now that summer has arrived everywhere, I am finally getting around to putting a fresh spin in the bedrooms of my home. Lately, the more pattern on pattern the better – I have fully embraced it. And the gingham textiles from Heather Taylor Home mix so well with the other prints in my home. For our primary bedroom, I used the mini gingham cream duvet cover and paired it with the cream gingham pillowcases and then used the soho nutmeg ruffle pillows as accent pillows. I love how they coordinate with the headboard textile without being perfectly matched. The quality of the fabric is incredible and washes so beautifully, which is important in a house with kiddos and sticky fingers. In Amelia’s room, we added a henri plaid duvet in navy and pillow shams in the same pattern. A small mini gingham accent pillow in the navy looks fresh and clean. With views of the bay, blue works great in all of our bedrooms. All Heather Taylor Home textiles are made in Chiapas, México and you can see the high quality of the weave. My house is definitely beginning to look like a home!

  • Interiors: Arrowhead Collection

I am thrilled to announce that I'm part of the Shoppe Amber Interiors Ambassador program. I've been a long time supporter of Amber and the brand she's built. I'm constantly ordering pieces from them for client projects. When they approached me I jumped at the chance to be a part of this amazing group. Today, I am so excited to share the new Arrowhead Collection. Made from a stunning block-printed pattern that is handcrafted in India and made from 100% cotton. The four colorways come in both pillows and a bedcover. I love that only natural dyes are used in making these textiles - the variation in color and tone make each piece unique and special. In addition, the pattern is so subtle that it is easy to mix it with other patterns. As you may have noticed, I've been embracing patterns in a big way recently. I decided the grey colorway would work best in my home with my paisley blue patterned bed. It makes it a little more moody, which works as we wait for Spring to arrive. Both the pillows and the bedcover are made of such a soft and luxurious fabric. I just want to jump into bed in the middle of the day. Pop on over to Shoppe Amber Interiors to check the collection and to receive a 15% discount, use the code Caitlin15. Sweet dreams everyone!

  • Vendor Spotlight: Erin Lane Estates

As most of you know, I love to hunt for the perfect antique for both my clients and myself. I have my favorite places to go, both here in the United States as well as in the countries I have visited. I find that as my taste changes, most of my antique pieces still find a place in my home. Not too long ago, I got a folding wine table from Erin Lane Estate. It’s become one of my favorite pieces in my home. I went back and found another piece I’m completely smitten about – a small side table that is versatile enough to go just about anywhere. I struck gold twice at the same place! If you enjoy mixing styles and adding something with a past, Erin Lane Estates is the perfect place to browse. They buy pieces from estates in southern California and all over the United States. Their goal is to find the highest quality iconic pieces that will elevate your home. I’m thrilled with this little corner I have created in my home. The table is perfect beside the vintage chair covered in a Les Indiennes print from India. I think I’ll be gravitating to this space for my morning tea. Happy hunting! And be sure to follow Erin Lane Estates on instagram for a previews and sneak peeks. I love following along! Photos by Caitlin Flemming

  • Style: A Few of My Sweaters

This season I’ve been noticing that I’ve been wearing sweaters everyday. It’s the easiest piece of clothing to throw on each morning for school drop off, but also elevated enough that I can go straight to a meeting or job site. The most asked question I get is - which Jenni Kayne is your favorite? While it varies season to season, I’ve pulled together my four favorites that have been on my weekly rotation. These are my tried and true sweaters that everyone at drop off sees me wear weekly. Maybe I should wear them on the same day of the week to see if anyone notices - just kidding! Jenni Kayne Favorites Cashmere Cocoon Cardigan - Moss (shown in photos) Cashmere Fisherman Sweater - All colors Oversized Cashmere Fisherman - Taupe Cropped Cashmere Cocoon - Nutmeg And remember, use code Caitlin15 at checkout in store and online for 15% off.
