  • a brand new week . . .

Goodbye sweet studio – you’ve been amazing. I’m handing over my keys to a dear friend today and I’m excited for her to make her own memories. I have a lot in store here this week – a delicious salad from Susan, a glimpse into my trip to Mexico, I’ll be sharing a lookbook project I worked on and much more. Now that we’re settling into life in our new apartment things are getting back to normal – no more running back and forth. It feels so good to have one home now. I hope all of you are off to a wonderfully productive week! Photo by Caitlin Flemming (iPhone) #lifestyle

  • On the Menu: Parsnip Chips

Today, Susan of Peas and Love has made a tasty treat you can make for a weekday snack at the office or when you’re lounging at home on the weekends. I’ve been a longtime fan of parsnips – I cook them in the oven with a little olive oil and they are scrumptious, but I’ve been looking for new ways to cook them. When I asked Susan if she has any other recipes she immediately thought of her Parsnip Chip recipe – boy are these good. Be warned . . . once you eat a few, you won’t be able to stop. Parsnip Chips Ingredients 3 Parsnips, sliced thinly (I recommend using a Mandolin) 2 Tbsp Canola Oil 1 tsp Chili Powder Salt and Pepper to taste Directions Preheat oven to 350. On a baking sheet, evenly spread out sliced parsnips and pour over oil, coating evenly with your hands. Then sprinkle over salt, pepper and chili powder, and bake for 20 minutes until crispy and slightly browned. Let cool for 10 minutes, then serve right away! (Note: these will still taste good the next day, but will not be as crunchy.) Recipe & Food Prep by Susan Whang / Photography & Styling by Caitlin Flemming #entertaining #cooking

  • Apartment Progress: Living Room Paint

I’ve been working away on the new apartment getting it ready for our move-in day, so I wanted to share some inspiration. Here are a few items I have on my wish list and a sneak peek at the paint color. It’s been so much fun working on my own space and making this new apartment feel like our own. When we first saw the space both Eric and I knew that we wanted to drastically change the paint color. It was dark charcoal grey (even on the ceilings) – and while I loved the color of the paint, it didn’t feel like us. So we decided to go all white throughout the entire apartment. As I pulled inspiration from magazines, Pinterest and books, I realized that white was definitely what I was gravitating towards. I wanted a clean, crisp and fresh space. Barcelona Chair from Rove Concepts / Pillow from John Robshaw / Bennett Media Center from Zinc Door / Miramar Sofa from Serena & Lily / Rug from Madeline Weinrib When we first decided to move I knew I wanted to make a big change with the paint color. I’ve been very attracted to all white homes – probably because I grew up in them. I felt like this space in particular needed to be all white. That’s why I went with my go-to white paint color – Benjamin Moore Mountain Peak White. I used it for my mom’s condo and in my opinion it’s the best white out there. In the photo above (taken on my iPhone) it looks a little rosey but that’s because I took this photo while the sun was setting. I’m thrilled with the way it turned out and our new apartment is finally feeling more like a home as we slowly move in this week. For more updates follow along on my “new apartment” board on Pinterest where I’ll be sharing inspiration for each room. Stay tuned for more before/after snippets throughout the new few months. I can’t wait to have each room come together slowly – it takes time to select and find every piece, but it’s definitely worth the wait. • a brand new week . . .

Happy Monday! After a weekend of packing and packing and more packing, I couldn’t wait for this week to begin so I could sit at my desk working. We quickly realized that after packing up the kitchen and dining room we were living in a sea of boxes so I enlisted a few amazing girlfriends (Susan and Nicole) to help move them over to our new place. Which is now starting to look like our home. Since almost all of my inspiration is packed away I thought I’d share with you a tiny corner of my bedside table that still brings me joy. Thanks to Natalie, this peony has made me smile each morning. This past week we started major construction on our new apartment – walls are being torn down due to a major leak. While I’m trying to put on a “it’s all good” attitude, it has been a little nerve wracking. I’ve been running back and forth between apartments and meeting with contractors. So if this week a post is a little late, know it’s coming. I have some exciting posts for you – I’m unveiling before/after photos of our living room progress, a new treat from Susan and new weekender I tested out on my trip to Mexico. Stay tuned for a jam packed week! Cheers to a wonderful week ahead for all of you. Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • On the Menu: Roasted Red Pepper Corn Chowder

We’ve had bursts of warm weather and then it cools down – this has been on repeat for the last month or so. When it cools down at night I’ve been craving soup. Susan of Peas and Love had a little fun with her Vitamix this weekend and created this delicious soup perfect for a chilly overcast spring night. The combination of red pepper and corn is incredible and I’m already planning on making it for Sunday night dinner this week. Roasted Red Pepper Corn Chowder Ingredients 1 10oz package of Frozen Corn 1 Red Pepper, roasted 1/2 White Onion, sliced 3 Tomatoes, chopped 2 Garlic Cloves 1/2 cup Black Beans (from a can is fine) Juice of 1 Lime 1/2 tsp Cumin 1/2 tsp Cayenne Pepper 1 tsp Chili Powder 4 Sprigs of Cilantro, chopped Salt and Pepper to taste Directions On a baking sheet, lay down halved and gutted red pepper drizzled in a light coat of Olive Oil, and bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes until soft and ever so slightly charred. Set aside. In a big pan, bring together onions, garlic and 3 tablespoons of Olive Oil over medium heat, and cook until onions are translucent. Add in corn, tomatoes, beans, lime juice and all the spices- mixing thoroughly. Lower heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a blender and throw in the peppers as well. Blend on high until a smooth puree forms, stopping occasionally to scrape down sides. Sprinkle in salt and pepper to taste and blend some more. Serve it up in bowls, and top with Cilantro. • a brand new week . . .

Happy Monday everyone! After a weekend of packing up the apartment it felt as though I got a lot accomplish around here but it was only a fraction of what still needs to be packed up. I keep reminding myself that once we’re done it’ll feel amazing to be in a new home. It’s weird packing up a home you’ve lived in for so long (especially the first one you’ve created). I’ve been finding special memories in each drawer, boxes and cabinet I open. I was talking to a girlfriend this morning about how moving is one of the most emotional things you can do – you’re leaving a place you’ve called home, messing with your routine, and going somewhere you want to make a home as quickly as possible but it takes time. These next two weeks will be quite interesting. If you have any tips on packing, things to do before moving, or any other inspiring words please share! A few things inspiring me this week – back issues of Domino Magazine, my trusty vintage tape measure that I carry everywhere, and my notebook filled with to-do lists. I hope all of you have a wonderfully productive week! Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • Recap: High Point Market

(Hable Construction for Hickory Chair Co.) Last week I was walking the showrooms at High Point Market. Since last October was my very first time at High Point I walked around not knowing what to expect – this season I felt as though I was a seasoned veteran. Plus, I had the best travel companion a gal could ask for – Grant Gibson. Let me tell you, he was like a kid in a candy store – which is probably how I was back in October. Since I’ve had my mind on moving into the new apartment as I walked through High Point, I wasn’t just sourcing items for client, but also for myself, which was incredibly fun. The first thing Eric and I have wanted to buy is a sofa – we’ve lived with an armless loveseat for too long. As I walked through showrooms I started eying a new sofa in each one. Here are a few of my favorites. (Century Furniture – my amazing sponsor this season! Walking through their beautiful 8,000 square foot showroom never disappoints) (CR Laine – I absolutely love going to visit Holly. She has done a fabulous job transforming this brand and showroom each season). (Kim Salmela – When Grant and I came across Kim’s space we were pleasantly surprised. We loved the designs and the overall aesthetic. A few of their pieces are perfect for current clients). (Oly Studio – This showroom is my idea of heaven. I’ve always been in love with their furniture . . . the clean lines, neutral tones and overall design is right up my alley. This Gio chair stole my heart). (Cisco Brothers Home – Grant and I had this showroom on our master list of showrooms to attend. I didn’t go last year so it was a must. Friends, the Cisco showroom is drop dead gorgeous. Both of us wanted to stay forever). Overall it was another great season at High Point. If you went to High Point did you have any favorite must-see showrooms? There is always so much to see it’s quite overwhelming, but I always have to remind myself that there is always next season to see more. I left feeling incredibly inspired, excited to have found items for clients homes, and lucky to have been introduced to new vendors and see old showroom friends. • a brand new week . . .

Getting a little bit of a late start this week – after working all weekend on a fabulous lookbook shoot in Carmel, I had to hit the ground running this morning working on a client deadline. It’s already been a hectic week and it’s only Monday. This week we’re starting to fix up our new apartment – painting starts tomorrow (I’m thrilled with the Benjamin Moore paint we picked out), light fixtures are arriving and we’re slowly but surely packing up the studio. I can’t believe we’re leaving our first home. A few things I’m loving from last week – a tortoise shell I picked up in High Point, my new favorite Freda shoes that I can’t stop wearing, the luggage tag that went with me on my travels this past month, and lastly, two magazines I thoroughly enjoyed. This week I’ll be sharing a delicious salad, my highlights from High Point, a new Room Anatomy and more! Photos by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle

  • Blooms In Season: April

Since the flower market is currently bursting with blooming branches, Natalie and I wanted to create an arrangement to include one of our favorites – Dogwood. We used them at my wedding. We also decided to create an arrangement that includes three vases. Both of us thought it would be fun to showcase how to use multiple vases on one a console, table or alcove in your house. I have to say – we had a lot of fun designing this month’s feature together. Read on to see how we put it together and to get tips from Natalie. How do you select the right three vases to go together? When I cluster vases I like to select vases that are different heights but the same material. All glass or all ceramic help the grouping look more consistent and purposeful. What types of flowers should you mix together when putting together a multi-vase arrangement? When making a multi-vase arrangement I like to keep the color palate cohesive and add some interest through textural changes. What flowers were used in this month’s arrangement? Dogwood, daffodils, geranium leaf, tweedia, lilac, and ranunculus. Any secret tips to keep these blooms lasting longer? Flowers with woody stems, such as Lilac, need a lot of water. The best way to make sure they get plenty of water is to hammer the ends of the stems to fray the ends to allow for maximum water availability. What comes into season in April? April is a special time of year full of select Springtime blooms. Many April flowers do not grow at other times of year and are not available for import, which makes their short season that much more special. April brings us the end of flowering fruit and nut trees but does bring us incredible dogwood and lilac. We also start to see muscari, fritilaria, the continuing of tulips and hyacinth. We have also been getting the most wonderful varieties of ranunculus this year, which has been a treat. We hope you enjoyed this month’s feature. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask in the comments. You can even let us know what you’d like to see in the coming months!
