- camp terrain . . .
I’ve been following Terrain for many years and daydreamed about what the store was like in person. Let me tell you, it’s beyond what you would expect. I’m going to warn you now, once you read this you’ll want to jump in your car or a plane and go visit. It’s out of this world and I wish it was around the corner from my house – although that would be dangerous. As we embarked on our blogger’s day at Terrain we were welcomed by nature surrounding us in every which way, and the staff made us feel right at home. Everywhere you turned your head you were greeted with beauty – the plants, buildings and merchandise. I was in awe. We had a full day of activities from a terrarium workshop, to a tour of the entire property that included them telling us about how they come up with inspiration for the entire store. We also has some amazing spa time in a mushroom hut and ended the marvelous day with a seven course meal that was out of this world (not to mention the group of people sitting around me were amazing and made me laugh so hard). Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better day – it’s just what I needed. It’s something I wish I would do every day. Thank you to the entire Terrain team for bringing us out for summer camp and making it a day I will always remember. Next time we’ll have to sing around a camp fire. - home sweet home . . .
After a whirlwind time hitting the streets of New York and enjoying a lovely day of summer camp at Terrain right outside Philadelphia, I’m excited to be making the journey back home to San Francisco. This past week has inspired me beyond words – I think that’s what traveling does to people. From exploring New York in the blazing heat with my favorite girls (Erin,Camille, and Lisa), to spending a day with talented bloggers, to making my first terrarium – the entire trip was magnificent and truly inspiring. Here are a few of my favorites from this trip – a necklace I picked up at the Brooklyn Flea Market in Williamsburg by World Trades Fair, the Standard hotel that was too cool for school, hanging out with my NYC contributor Lauren from Material Lust, delicious chocolate cover honeycomb (yes, it heavenly) and lastly Terrain. Words cannot describe how inspiring it was. Don’t worry, a whole post is coming up tomorrow with details about my time there. Hope all of you have had a wonderful week thus far. *Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- a brand new week . . .
Happy Monday! I've been making it a weekend ritual to enjoy time away from work - catching up with friends, taking day trips to warmer weather and actually taking the time to read. That's exactly what happened this weekend - a day trip up to Napa to visit friends that just had a baby last week (he is adorable), spending mornings finishing a book, and spending an evening with are best friends who just got engaged. In my eyes it was perfection and just what I needed to restore energy for a busy work week. To top it all off, these are the things that got me incredibly inspired this past week: the brand new Vogue Living Australia that never disappoints, gorgeous peonies that popped into my local grocery store, a postcard from the wonderful Will and Toby, my new orange Clare Vivier clutch that I can’t stop using (it’s beautiful!!) and then my necklace I got while I was in New Mexico in March. It’s amazing to see the things in my life that inspire me – this new Monday post is so much fun! PS. Be sure to check out my new Houzz post on outdoor entertaining inspiration! *Photos taken by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- It’s all in the details . . .
As I sat down to write this post I didn’t know where to start, how I should put it together and how much I should write. I kept looking back at the beautiful images and video by Michelle and thought “the images tell it all so how much do I really need to say.” Plus, many of you have already read details about each room on Design*Sponge. So I’ve put together one post with a ton of detailed shots, product sources and a floor plan – lots of emails came pouring in asking for all three. A few words to describe our style: fresh, feminine, thoughtful, inviting and a mix of old and new. Our home is more of a collected look with a touch of modern. Almost everything is from the Alameda Flea Market and pieces I’ve picked up from my travels. I believe that wherever you go you should try finding something that represents what you loved about that place and bring it into your home. There is nothing I love more than a home that has treasures and pieces that actually mean something and more importantly have a story behind them. If you come into our home I have a story about each treasure I’ve found – it’s amazing to see people’s faces when they hear the many stories. Also, one thing to note is that I got my passion for interior design from my mom. She used to take me to flea markets when we traveled to different countries – I always thought it was fascinating. She shaped my eye for finding those “hard to find” pieces and gave me a great sense of style through her aesthetic. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be immersed in interior design today. When you look at our floor plan you realize how small our apartment really is – lots of friends and family are surprised that we’ve lived in such a small space for five years, but it’s home and we haven’t gone stir crazy yet. Thank you all again for your amazing support, lovely comments and emails about our home being featured – it truly warmed my heart and made my day, week, year! You are the best readers a gal could ask for. If you have any specific questions feel free to contact me. *Photos by Michelle Drewes for Sacramento Street #interiors
- a new week + a winner!
Good morning everyone, it’s a new week and after a weekend spent slowing down and unwinding, I’m ready to take on the week. We headed up to Portland on a last minute trip – spent mornings out on the porch enjoying homemade breakfast with the scent of Jasmine in the air, went to Alder & Co (my favorite new Portland store) and spent entirely too much money. We also went to the local tobacco shop to pick up some new glossies and ended the day with a meal at Caffe Mingo that was out of this world – let’s just say it was the weekend that I totally needed to get recharged. As I mentioned last week, I’m going to start giving you a peek at the items that have inspired me over the last week: the ever so stunning House Beautiful which I can’t seem to put down, a mint Julip cup I picked up at the flea market, my new favorite bracelet I can’t seem to stop wearing, Sibella Court’s NYC guide and bright new lip gloss that I love. Also, I’ve been overjoyed with all of your comments about our home being featured on Design*Sponge – your support means the world to me. Tomorrow I’ll begin posting details about each part of the apartment with more detailed photos, sources, a floor plan and more. Many of you are emailing and commenting, so just watch out for the posts! And now for the WINNER of the West Elm Parsons Tower giveaway is . . . Tobe of Beacause It’s Awesome! A huge congratulations to you – I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! I’ll be contacting you soon about details. Have a wonderful week lovelies! Hope it is a great one! *Photo taken by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- Sneak Peek of Our Apartment on Design*Sponge!
It’s been a secret dream of mine to be featured on Design*Sponge – yes, I’m a such a nerd. When I sent Grace the images of my apartment my heart was beating so incredibly fast I thought I might have a heart attack. I didn’t know if they would love them or hate them, but then I received an email back with a huge “yes” in it. I immediately called upon Michelle Drewes, a talented photographer that I’ve worked with before. Her eye and aesthetic match perfectly with my style. I couldn’t have asked for a better photographer to capture our home. To top it all off, Michelle created a beautiful video – I literally got tears in my eyes when it popped into my inbox. Please sit back, turn up the volume and enjoy a little something extra. Thank you all for the support and sweet comments over on Design*Sponge! It means the world to me to have your ongoing support and don’t worry I’ll be posting lots of outtakes next week! Also, thank you Grace and Amy for the lovely feature – means the world to me! - a brand new week . . .
Happy Monday everyone! I hope all of you had a fun, rejuvenating weekend – I sure did. I felt like I accomplished so much the past two days and enjoyed some quality time relaxing. It ended with an impromptu trip up to Napa yesterday for a garden party – lots of delicious food (I ate entirely too much), lots of sunshine and I met some amazing people. Now, I know on Friday I said that today would be the day that you would see my apartment, but I received an email this morning that it’s been postponed two weeks. I’m terribly sorry and I hope you understand. The photographer that I worked with, Michelle Drewes and I put together a little something special for Sacramento Street readers for when it’s finally revealed – it’s worth the wait, I promise. In the meantime, I wanted to share one photo that isn’t being used. I love the way these anemones look in photos. Hope all of you have a wonderful week ahead of you. Be sure to enter the amazing West Elm giveaway that went live yesterday and thanks for understanding! Photography by Michelle Drewes of Caitlin Flemming’s home #lifestyle
- GIVEAWAY: A West Elm . . .
Just two weeks ago I got the Parsons Tower from West Elm. My husbands first thought was “where am I ever going to put this” – well with a little re-arranging and then a bit of re-decorating, it now has a special place in our dining room. In all honesty, he should know that I always have a master plan in my head. Once it was all done, I began thinking about how others would decorate theres Parsons Tower. West Elm is giving away a Parsons Tower to one lucky Sacramento Street reader. Do you have the perfect spot for the Parsons Tower? If so, how would you see yourself decorating it? Would it be with beautiful books, travel treasures, family heirlooms? 1. To enter, leave a comment (with your name and email) letting us know where and how you would decorate your own Parsons Tower. 2. Pop over to the West Elm Facebook and Twitter page and follow/like both them. (if you already “like” it then you’re already entered.) An important detail. You must live in the United States to enter this giveaway. This giveaway ends July 8th. *Photos taken by Caitlin #interiors
- snapshots: tennessee valley
I spent this past Saturday afternoon in Marin hiking in Tennessee Valley. It instantly put my mind at ease – there is nothing like being surrounded by nature. This walk in particular is one of my favorites because when you turn that last corner and see the big ocean in front of you it feels like there is no other place on earth like it. *Photos by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- sneak peek: glitter guide shoot
This past Sunday the Flemming household was taken over by the amazingly talented Glitter Guide team, Taylor and Alicia. Let me tell you, there was never a dull moment – from the constant humming and dancing of Alicia, to the wardrobe changes, to the wind blowing my hat off my head (got to love SF’s gusts of wind). Let’s just say we had a blast and I’m excited to share just a few sneak peek photos that Alicia took throughout the day. You’ll have to wait to see the rest once Glitter Guide launches mid-June. Enjoy! images 1 – 3 taken by Alicia and 4. by the Michelle Drewes #lifestyle
