- a brand new week . . .
Is it Monday? Honestly, I can’t even begin to tell you what day of the week it is because the past two days have been jam-packed with non-stop walking through inspiring showrooms, lectures and events. Friends, I didn’t know what to expect at my first season of High Point Market, but let me tell you, it has been beyond what I even imagined. As I walked through some of the showrooms – Hickory Chair, Bernhardt, CR Laine, and many more – I couldn’t believe the amount of inspiration and innovative designs they are bringing to the table. I’m not only excited to recap my favorite things I’ve seen thus far here on Sacramento Street, but I can’t wait to share everything with my team of designers at work. Be sure to keep following on twitter and instagram for real time trend spotting. I also promise I’ll be sharing my favorites here. Have a fabulous start to your week! - a brand new week . . .
Happy Monday friends! This weekend was quite a whirlwind – we flew to LA for our best friends beautiful wedding and then hopped on a plane yesterday to make it back to SF in time for the Giants playoff game. No rest for the weary. A few things inspiring me this week – Goodbye Picasso (my mom’s latest book find), jewels I’ve been fond of lately, and a paper weight by John Derian that keeps my papers under control. With the air getting chillier I’m excited for the fall days ahead. I hope all of you have a fabulous fall-like week. Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- a brand new week . . .
This weekend I fully re-charged, relaxed and completely unplugged – something I rarely do. I’m not going to lie, the first few hours into the trip were a little weird. I even felt a small withdrawal, but once I sat back on the porch, opened up my new book (My Berlin Kitchen) and spent endless hours reading, I had no trouble being unplugged. It was exactly what I needed before starting a hectic new month that is now here. Let me tell you, now that I’m back, I’m wishing I could still be on the porch overlooking the Oregon trees and mountains in the distance. But alas, it’s back to reality. I hope all of you had a splendid weekend as well. This week I’ll be sharing a new workspace feature that is very different and I think you book lovers are going to go gaga for it! Cheers to a new month of possibilities and memories! #lifestyle
- On the Menu: Poached Eggs with Asparagus and Sweet Potatoes
About a month ago I went over to Grant’s house for an impromptu dinner and he casually threw together this delicious recipe. I was in awe and immediately wanted to go home to recreate it. Since this fabulous dinner I’ve made this recipe three times. It’s definitely one of those warm fall-like dinners that you’ll want to whip up at night. Big thank you to Grant for letting me share this recipe! Poached Eggs with Asparagus and Sweet Potatoes Ingredients 4 to 5 Sweet Potatoes 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper 1 tablespoon oil oil sprinkle of salt and pepper 1 bunch of asparagus 2 eggs per person 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar 5 shallots 1 to 2 tablespoons unsalted butter 5 shallots, peeled, with roots intact 1 tablespoons sugar Directions 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. While the oven is pre-heating wash and cut sweet potatoes into 1/2 inch slices. Put on baking sheet with olive oil, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Then place in oven for about 45 minutes or until sweet potatoes are nice and soft. 2. Meanwhile boil water in medium pot. Place asparagus in pot and steam until they are al dente and still have a little crunch. Drain and sprinkle sea salt on top. 3. While the asparagus is cooking, bring another medium pot of water to a boil and stir in the vinegar. Crack one egg at a time into a small bowl and gentle slide the egg into the water. Repeat with the other egg. 4. Allow the eggs to cook for about 3 minutes and until the whites are set. The yolk should still be runny. Use a slotted spoon to remove the eggs and set them on a tea towel to drain off excess water. Do the same with the second egg. 5. Melt the butter in a 12-inch saute pan, add the shallots and sugar, and toss to coat. Cook over medium heat for 15 – 20 minutes, tossing occasionally, until the shallots start to brown. 6. Place about 1 cup of sweet potatoes on plate with a few pieces of asparagus. Then place two poached eggs on top and finish the dish off with caramelized shallots on top. Happy fall everyone – with my favorite season officially here I’m ready for the chilly air, the layers and the days spent sipping warm tea. As autumn began on Saturday the wind caught my sail and I headed into an amazing direction – it’s amazing what a few days can do. I’m feeling rejuvenated, recharged and ready for what’s to come this fall. A few things I loved this weekend – getting to enjoy the latest issue of Elle Decoration after an early pilates class, a vintage necklace from Erica Tanov and branches of cotton that I styled on my coffee table. I hope this first week of fall brings you joy, happiness and productivity! ps. This past Saturday Eric and I celebrated the SF Giants amazing game that officially got them into the playoffs – this fall will be filled with many more baseball games and a very happy husband. - workspace: freda salvador
What happens when two shoe designers who have dreamt of starting their own line meet? In this case, it’s Freda Salvador. The brainchild of friends Megan Papay and Cristina Palomo originally met as former designers at Anyi Lu. They instantly bonded after working together. Their debut collection just launched into stores this fall and believe me when I say that every design is stunning. The wearable designs will have you wanting multiples of each, which include flat booties, equestrian-inspired boots, and oxford-loafer hybrids that feature removable vamps (a favorite of mine, if I HAD to choose). When asked to describe the Freda Salvador shoe both say “classic styles but with a bit of an edge.” The two creative’s invited me over to their beautiful Sausalito studio to get a glimpse into their workspace – it’s fun, inspiring and it doesn’t hurt that the view is of the bay. As you walk into their studio you don’t know what to take in first – the shoes, the vintage furniture or their custom etsy sign that is glowing. Take a seat, get inspired and enjoy their interview and images of their workspace. You can find Freda Salvador shoes at La Boutique in San Francisco, Saks and online on ShopBop. Hope you enjoyed getting an inside look into this beautiful workspace. If you have a inspiring individual that you’d like to see featured in this workspace series email me with a little description about why you think they should be featured. - a brand new week . . .
This week is starting out bright and sunny – I think summer-like weather has finally arrived in the city (let’s hope I didn’t just jinx it). Over the weekend I enjoyed the beautiful weather we had, caught up on all my sartorial blogs from the first few days of fashion week and ended the weekend with a much needed haircut. All in all, I’m ready to hit the ground running this week. Today, I’m excited to be featured over on La La Lovely where I’m sharing a side of me I’ve never shown before . . . where my messes are around the apartment. It’s a clever series that I think shows how bloggers aren’t always perfect – like you may see when we’re featured in the press. Pop on over to see where my messes are around our apartment. I hope all of you have a fabulous and fashionable week ahead – I’ll definitely be over on Pinterest pinning my favorite looks from fashion week. Photo by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle
- workspace: erica tanov
The first time I stumbled upon Erica Tanov it was a cold snowy day in New York City. Both my mom and I were freezing and needed to get warmed up. As we entered the beautiful Elizabeth Street store we were in shock – what had we stumbled upon . . . a beautifully curated store that made our hearts pound a million miles a minute. Within minutes I had fallen in love. As I traveled back to San Francisco I was determined to someday work for her and a little over four months later it happened. A new Erica Tanov opened on Fillmore, and gusto, I went in and said I could work anytime. Little did I know that I’d be entering into this magical world of stunning fabrics, gorgeous designed clothing that would become staples in my wardrobe and be part of a group of women that continue to inspire me to this day. Once you are an Erica Tanov girl you’ll be embraced for life. I can honestly say that without this experience I wouldn’t be the woman I am today – she opened my eyes to a creative world that helped me believe that I could work in a creative industry. This workspace feature is very special. As you go through the photos you’ll see images of Erica’s workspace at home. She describes it as her oasis and where she can develop each of her collections. From the beautiful fabric swatches, to the treasures surrounding her, and the view outside being so natural with beauty – who wouldn’t get inspired by a place like this? After all of these years of knowing Erica it was fun to sitting down with her for a little interview. I love the fact that she is working with local artists to create and inspire her future collections. The artwork you see on her work table that I photographed is by artists at Creative Growth in Oakland. Erica has selected a handful of these artists to work with and is creating cotton and silk prints with them for her spring 2013 clothing and homeware collections. The launch of their collaboration is tonight – September 6th at the Marin Country Mart. there is an event to celebrate a gallery of artwork done by the artists at Creative Growth. Please join us if you are in the area. Event / Opening Party: Thursday, September 6, 2012 6pm to 9pm Food by: Holly Perez for Culinary Things The ‘pop-up’ gallery will be open for the entire month of September so stop by! I hope you enjoyed this exclusive look into Erica’s workspace – if you want more inspiration head over to her tumblr. And of course, a huge thank you to Erica for allowing me to photograph her inspiring home. Photos by Caitlin Flemming #lifestyle #interiors
- four favorites
Spending time at home in bed this weekend had its perks – getting through stacks and stacks of design magazines. It got my mind thinking about a few new items I’d eventually like to add into the apartment. It’s always the little things that have a huge impact on the look and feel of your home. These are a few of those things I’m coveting this week. 1. Sleek Art Deco Modernism German Kienzle Wall Clock 2. John Robshaw Gent’s Stripe Clay Decorative Pillow 3. Vintage Jack Nickel Sculpture 4.
