Sometimes when it comes to sourcing for clients it takes a trip to a new city to get inspiration. One of those inspiring cities is Los Angeles. What I love about traveling to LA is that it’s close enough to do a day of sourcing without having to pack. A little over a week ago I left before the sunrise and landed in LA for a day of jam-packed sourcing.
One thing I do before every trip – big or small – is to map out what stores, restaurants and locations I want to visit and then decide where to start. This helps avoid zig-zagging across a city. When traveling it’s essential for me to keep business and personal items separate. That’s why I love that with Uber I can have a business profile within my app. It makes expense time way easier. When it comes to getting around, Uber is the most convenient way – especially when you want your day to be hassle-free.
I set out from LAX to the furthest destination – Shoppe Amber Interiors. It is one of my favorite places to pick up pieces for clients and also get inspired. This shop, which is only a 40 minute drive from the airport, is filled to the brim with unique pieces – it’s not to be missed.
Next up on the trip was Hollywood at Home. I’ll be doing an entire post about this showroom/shop because it’s one of those spots anyone working on their home should visit for inspiration. From their beautiful pillows, stunning bedcovers (I’m obsessed!), and gorgeous antique furniture, it left me wanting to makeover my entire house.
From there I needed to re-fuel and headed to Platform LA. A new-ish gem in Culver City houses the likes of Freda Salvador, Tenoverten, Janessa Leone and my favorite lunch spot that I dream about Loqui. Words cannot describe how good these tacos are – it brings me back to growing up in Mexico City.
Just a few minutes away from Platform LA is Midland. The first time I walked in this store I felt as though Santa Fe was brought to the West Coast. Their unique finds – especially the pottery, baskets and books, are perfect pieces for any home.
With a new client in mind I headed to Croft House to look at a few pieces in person. Their mission is to create sophisticated pieces of furniture that embody a relaxed California vibe. Each piece is custom made in Los Angeles.
The last shop on my list was Liz’s Hardware. Even if I only have five minutes to spare, I try to pop into this gem. Every wall is filled with antique hardware that is stunning. I always seem to find a piece or two to bring back to use for a project or myself.
I couldn’t leave LA without one last meal. This time it was at Gjusta Bakery. If you look at travel guides for LA you’ll find this on every list – and rightfully so. Their food is mouthwatering. I had never been for dinner before and let me tell you – it’s a must. What is usually a crowded spot was peaceful and lit up by candlelight. It was just want I needed after a hectic day running around and it got me prepped to jump in my last Uber of the day before the flight home to San Francisco.
