Interiors: Using Pattern in Your Home

I don’t know if it was the enormous amount of time all of us spent at home these past two years, or just my love of English interiors, but I have been gravitating to pattern on pattern in homes. My own design work has always involved pattern but lately it’s been taken to a whole new level.

In a recent home I designed, the mix of patterns worked so seamlessly together from one room to the next. I think what made it work is both a mix of the size of the pattern and connection between each pattern we chose. It felt so good to see how great it looked in the end. Don’t be afraid of starting with wallpaper. I prefer doing the entire room instead of just one accent wall. Then using a print of a different size on curtains, cushions and upholstery.

Notice in this project that the patterns don’t always match but they do coordinate with one another. I think all of us need comfort in our home right now and adding a little pattern to the mix can give you that cozy and intriguing space.

In the end, you’ll have a space that feels both beautifully comfortable and inviting.
